Upwelling Press is a small, independent publishing house based between western Victoria and the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Upwelling’s inaugural title, PINDAN — a collection of writing, art and photography centred on the west Kimberley — was released in October 2025.

PINDAN

The red-soil Country of the west Kimberley is known as the pindan. The creative force that draws inspiration from this place is immense. In this journal, eighteen contributors respond to their experience of the pindan.

Some were born and raised on Country, and reside here as their ancestors always have. Others stayed for a short but intense period in their lives. Then there are those who arrived and chose to remain, because they recognised it as a place that provided them with something they could not find anywhere else.

PINDAN is a small, diverse collection of knowledge and art, writing and ecology, and is an exploration of what this shared place means to us.
